Wellhouse 4
December 23, 2024
In early 2024, regulations were enacted by the EPA to set new stricter limits on PFOS and PFOA presence in drinking water. The EPA will require monitoring for compliance to begin in 2027, and full compliance with all regulated levels starting in 2029. This schedule is in place to allow water providers time to make changes to their treatment systems. When the PRA received notice of these changes, the PRA immediately started to prepare plans and designs to make sure the water system received improvements to address the future regulations. The PRA has already designed and permitted a Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) treatment system at Well 4 to meet future water quality standard enacted by the EPA. The PRA currently has this work out for public bid and anticipates construction of the Well 4 system improvements in 2025.
While larger than the originally constructed well house 4, the new building should be mostly hidden from view by buffer yard plantings. Seen below are renderings of the proposed treatment center illustrating approximate size and appearance.
