Consumer Notification of a Lead Status Unknown Service Line

Perkasie Regional Authority (PRA) has recently mailed letters to certain property owners regarding the Consumer Notification of a Lead Status Unknown Service Line. These notifications are being issued in compliance with federal requirements under the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR), which mandate that all water utilities identify, verify, and report the materials of customer service lines.

 Why You Received This Letter

PRA maintains detailed records of its water system; however, for some properties, historical documentation does not clearly identify the type of material used for the customer-owned portion of the service line. When the material type cannot be confirmed, the service line must be classified as “Lead Status Unknown.”

This does not mean that lead is present, nor does it indicate an immediate health risk. It simply means that PRA is required to notify you until the service line material can be verified through inspection or existing documentation.

What This Means for You

  • The notification is informational and required by federal regulation.
  • No immediate action is required by the property owner.
  • PRA will continue systemwide efforts to verify service line materials and update our inventory.
  • If documentation or inspection later confirms your service line is not lead, your property’s classification will be updated accordingly.  To help speed up this process, please call the office to schedule an inspection of your service line.  This inspection will take not more than a couple of minutes and will require one of the Authority Staff to access the water service line at the entry point of house (where the water meter is located).
